Why were plantations not profitable in the New England Colonies?

Answer:

Plantations were not profitable because the terrain was rough and the soul was rocky, while the climate was harsh and cold. The farmers would have to do sustenance farming and only feed their families. Some of these crops were corn, beans, and squash.
