The symbol ; is a semicolon. You use it when separating two main clauses in a sentence. Ex: I love burgers; I eat french fries with ketchup. The symbol : is a colon. You use colons when separating two dependent clauses or making a list. Ex: They created a class playlist with music: hip hop, rock and classical.
